History of The Land Called Mian-Jin
The Aboriginal people of Brisbane, called Turrbals, hold several unique ceremonies every year. To them, the area is called “Mian-jin” or “place shaped as a spike.” The area has mild, dry winters and humid, hot summers, which means thunderstorms, rain, hail, and strong winds are common in this subtropical climate. The river was very important to the native people before the Europeans arrived, both for trade, food, and water. Local museums tell more of the story of these interesting people so be sure to visit one while at your accommodation in Brisbane. The rich cultural history of the area includes Asian, Greek, and Italian immigrants.
