My View On “Me & My Car: The Cold’s Effect on Electric Car Batteries and Giving an Engine More Horsepower”

As one who has sold Cadillacs & Buicks for 3 decades, I take strong exception to some of the expert advice you offered the owner of the 2007 Buick Lucerne who drives 5,000 miles annually.

First, if he is going to change anything, it should be the oil and filter twice annually . . . Not the coolant. The advantage of doing the routine servicing is that a (good) service department technician will have the opportunity to look over the car to see if there is a ‘pending’ problem developing.

Second, the owner is driving 100+/- miles weekly . . . More than enough miles to keep all lubricating parts functioning properly, negating the need for coolant changes.

In closing, your advice would cost this Buick owner expenses he should never have incurred, while skipping some maintaintence that would have been beneficial over the long run.

If I didn’t know better, I would have suspected the response to his question was written by a commission hungry service writer.
